Bridges Monthly Update #8

22 August, 2007

ANOTHER BIG YEAR FOR BRDIGE CREWS ON BOTH RAILROADS!

The two properties currently have nearly $5 million in bridge work scheduled for the 2007 season.  Much of this work is scheduled in conjunction with the “west end” project, but a significant amount of major repairs will be made across both properties.  A summary of the major projects is listed below

·        Bridge 1845 at MP 610 on the DM&E’s PRC Subdivision has received a complete rebuild and was completed in the 2nd quarter.     E- 80 crews with Monty Unseth and Mel Hershberger were the foreman for the two crews that completed the work on this project. Monty is the crew that specializes in the wood parts of the bridge and Mel’s crew specializes in steel structures, including the pile driving.

·        Mel’s E-80 crew went to the bridge # H308 on the Black Hills sub near MP 150 and completely rebuilt that structure. This project was started in early June and was completed in early August and also involved driving all new pile for the entire structure.

·        Mel’s crew is now working on bridge H313 in Belle Fourche over the Belle Fourche River. This is also a complete rebuild and will completely dominate this crew’s schedule for the rest of the year. If everything goes well, this bridge will be done by the end of the year, however it could extend into the first quarter of 08.

·        Bridge H-367 near Colony, Wyoming will be completely filled and several 8’ pipes installed in the 2nd quarter of 2007.

·        Bridge R-64 near MP 9 on the IC&E’s Mason City Subdivision is scheduled for a complete rebuild in late 2007.

·        Local track and bridge crews completed the re-decking and rail replacement on the Truman Bridge north of Kansas City in the late 1st quarter and early 2nd quarter of 2007.
