System-Wide Monthly Update

The 2007 capital program has long since been completed and plans have moved forward for the 2008 production season.  The 2007 season saw great progress with over 200,000 ties and 130 miles of rail being installed across the two properties and the 2008 season is projected to be another big year for tie and rail projects.

A summary of the major accomplishments of 2007 will be below and then, on subsequent pages we will list schedule projects for 2008.

 

¨       The major rail projects that were completed in 2007 were as follows:

1.        DM&E

1.     32 miles of CWR between Colony, Wyoming and Sturgis, South Dakota.

2.     30 miles of CWR between Rapid City and Owanka, South Dakota

3.     8 miles of CWR through Pierre and Fort Pierre

4.     30 miles of CWR between Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and Judson, Minnesota

2.        IC&E

1.     15 miles of CWR between Sabula Jct, Iowa and Bellevue, Iowa.

2.     7 miles north of Dubuque, Iowa in the Mud Lake area

3.     7 miles west of Algona, Iowa

4.     7 miles of curve replacement on KC, River, Marquette and Mason City subs.

 

 

¨       The Major tie projects that were completed in 2007 were as follows:

1.        IC&E Tie projects

1.     11,000 ties on the Rockford sub

2.     20,000 ties on Marquette sub north of Dubuque

3.     22,000 ties on Marquette sub north of Marquette

4.     13,000 ties on Mason City sub near New Hampton

5.     8,000 ties on Mason City sub on the Monona Hill

6.     14,000 ties on west end of Mason City sub

7.     12,000 ties on the Jackson Sub

8.     12,000 ties on the KC sub west of Nahant

1.     20,000 ties on KC sub south of Ottumwa

2.      6,000 ties in various yard and siding projects

2.        DM&E Tie Projects

1.     25,000 ties on Black Hills sub south of Sturgis

2.     20,000 ties on PRC between Midland and Pierre

3.     6,000 ties in various yards and sidings

 

¨       Surfacing crews on the two properties unloaded more than 100,000 tons of ballast and surfaced well over 900 miles of track in the 2007 season.  This was accomplished with 8 Company crews and 2 contracting crew to assist late in the year.

 

¨       There were several major bridge projects worth noting that were completed in 2007, not the least of which was bridge# 1845 near MP 610 on the PRC sub and bridge #H-308 near MP 150 on the Black Hills sub.
