Rail Weekly Update #8

3 June 2004

AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

As of June 3rd, we have installed just over 42 of the roughly 97 track miles scheduled to be completed by November 19th.  It appears we will meet or beat the schedule.  The RJ Corman crew that has been laying all of the CWR on the DM&E has returned to the area and will begin laying the section of rail between Garvin and Tyler on Friday the 4th.  This project will continue 7 days per week, at least 12 hours a day until about the 25th of June before being completed.  After completing this section and a short break, the crew will complete the CWR project to MP 267 (between Lake Benton and Verdi) by the middle part of July.

¨       The second section of CWR between Volga and Lake Preston (MP 298 and MP 319) was completed on Friday the 28th and DM&E crews have been very busy installing crossings, bridge decks, and spot surfacing in the area to raise the class of track to FRA class 2, 25 MPH.

¨       Cranes operators Brian Lynn and Ron Klucas continue to work in the area to clean up scrap rail and otm and remove it from the Right-of Way so surfacing and tie crews can complete the remainder of the work in the area and further raise this section of track to FRA class 3, 40 MPH.

¨       We expect this entire section of track to be to 25 MPH by the end of June or the first week of July.

¨       The remaining 3 rail trains (230,000 feet) are scheduled to be here by the second week of July. These last three rail trains will all be unloaded on the IC&E, 2 for the Calmar project and the other for the 2004 curve program.

¨       Rail laying on the Calmar project is now expected to begin after the 4th of July to allow for the installation of all of the ties and the switches.

¨       The IC&E curve patch program under the direction of foreman Steve Koser and Project Supervisor Tom Goffinet expects to start their part of the IC&E CWR project on the second week of July on the Mason City sub and will lay curve patch rail for the remainder of the year toward Kansas City.
