Surfacing Weekly Update #29

4 November 2004

ELEVEN SURFACING CREWS  CONTINUE TO HAVE EXCELLENT PRODUCTION!!

As of  November 4 we have surfaced over 760 of the 800 pass miles that we had projected to be surfaced in the 2004 production year, over 95% of the total miles scheduled.  All information from the field still indicates to us that the schedule will be met or exceeded yet this fall.

There are currently 6 surfacing crews on the DM&E this year.  They are Kent Maxon’s east crew, Earl Ruckdashal’s central crew, Jared Hook’s west crew, and Bob Tech’s Black Hills crew and then contractors Railworks and Saetrak assisting on the Huron and Tracy subs.   On the IC&E we have Mike Cherne’s south crew, Jason Teynor’s river crew, and Remington Hill’s grain line crew, assisted by contractor Progress Rail, south of the Quad Cities.

¨       The Railworks surfacing crew will complete their work on the west end of the Huron sub this week and will then travel to Brookings to surface between Brookings and Volga

¨       Safetrak has just recently gotten started and is currently working west from Tyler toward Verdi

¨       The ARB surfacing crew continues to perform well and has already this year completed work on the Owatonna sub of the IC&E and the Waseca sub of the DM&E.  They are currently working near Walnut Grove on the Tracy sub and will assist on the Huron sub when they finish there.

¨       Kent Maxon’s crew is west of Balaton. They will make a final pass on the Florence connection and then will continue surfacing westward toward Tyler

¨       Earl Ruckdashal and Jared Hook both have surfacing crews working on the PRC

¨       Bob Tech’s surfacing crew is working near Colony WY.  Assisting with the switch and track renewal at that location.

¨       Remington Hill’s crew is finishing up surfacing on the Calmar Rail Project

¨       Jason Teynor’s crew is working on the Marquette sub

¨       Mike Cherne’s crew continues to work northward on the Kansas City sub.

¨       As of October 21, 2004 nearly 250,000 tons of ballast has been distributed on both properties.  This is over 95% of the 255,000 tons of ballast that we now believe we will require to complete this year’s projects.  The Engineering Department as a whole appreciates the cooperation we have received from both Quarries and the transportation department to get all of this ballast unloaded.
