Surfacing Weekly Update #30

11 November 2004

ELEVEN SURFACING CREWS CONTINUE TO HAVE EXCELLENT PRODUCTION!!

As of November 11th we have surfaced over 790 of the 800 pass miles that we had projected to be surfaced in the 2004 production year, over 95% of the total miles scheduled.

There are currently 6 surfacing crews on the DM&E this year.  They are Kent Maxon’s east crew, Earl Ruckdashal’s central crew, Jared Hook’s west crew, and Bob Tech’s Black Hills crew and then contractors Railworks and Saetrak assisting on the Huron and Tracy subs.  On the IC&E we have Mike Cherne’s south crew, Jason Teynor’s river crew, and Remington Hill’s grain line crew, assisted by contractor Progress Rail, south of the Quad Cities.

¨       The Railworks surfacing crew has completed the surfacing on the west end of the Huron sub and has traveled eastward to surface between Brookings and Volga.  They will complete their work this weekend.

¨       Safetrak has surfaced between Tyler and Verdi and will also complete Aurora to Brookings by the end of this week.

¨       The ARB surfacing crew will finish the Tracy sub later this week and will assist on the Tracy sub until Thanksgiving.

¨       Kent Maxon’s crew is finishing up the CWR project east of Tyler and also will finish up the Florence connection tracks before heading to the Lake Preston area to do some final spot surfacing until freeze up

¨       Both Earl Ruckdashal’s and Jared Hook’s surfacing crews will work on the PRC until freeze up.

¨       Bob Tech’s surfacing crew is working near Colony, WY assisting with the switch and track renewal at that location.

¨       Remington Hill’s crew has finished up surfacing on the Calmar Rail Project and will spot surface other areas of the Mason City sub until freeze up.

¨       Jason Teynor’s crew will work on the Marquette sub for the remainder of the year.

¨       Mike Cherne’s crew continues to work northward on the Kansas City sub.

¨       As of November 11, 2004 nearly 255,000 tons of ballast has been distributed on both properties.  This is over 100% of total amount that we originally forecast to unload this year and the Engineering Department as a whole appreciates the cooperation we have received from both Quarries and the transportation department to get all of this ballast delivered and unloaded.
