Surfacing Weekly Update #33

9 December 2004

SURFACING IS COMPLETED ON ALL MAJOR PROJECTS!!!

As of December 9th we have surfaced well over the 800 pass miles that we had scheduled to be surfaced this year.  Some of the surfacing crews will continue to surface as long as possible to further improve rough areas on the properties.

The 255,000 tons of ballast is nearly three times what has been normally used on these two properties.

Crews continue to spot surface on the Black Hills and PRC subs of the DM&E and on the Marquette, River and Kansas City subs of the IC&E to remove the last few slow orders. These last crews will continue until weather dictates the end of the season.

As is the case with the other major programs, management and employees are working on estimates to project which surfacing projects and how much ballast will be needed for the 2005 season.
